From time to time something does go haywire, and it take some time before it gets noticed (especially if it's not the entire site). Several times I've had the hosting service provide completely stuff up the site by doing stupid things.
Around the beginning of April 2025 the service provided dumbly reset the file permissions of every page on the site, wiping out all the navigational links between pages. Recovering from that is taking some time, there's thousands of files to check. And I'm going through the whole site looking for ways to future proof things against repeats of that incompetent action, which means adjusting several hundred pages.
