Amongst other things, Space Trash is a parady of a few television shows. Here is some information about some of the shows that Space Trash paradies, and was inspired by:
Doctor Who originally started out as a childrens television series at the end of 1963, and turned into a cult show around the mid 1970's. It was a BBC science fiction series, that ran for over 25 years (soon to be reborn).

Star Trek is an American science fiction show, created by Gene Roddenbery. It began in the mid to late 1960's, and has gone through several re-incarnations as spin-offs from the original TV series. There have been cartoons, movies, and three new series based on the original.
